Hometown: Richland WA

Age: 19

First started training at FOCF: April 2013

Favorite WOD: Cindy

Least favorite WOD: Hands down, Karen.

Sports and fitness background: In high school I ran varsity cross country and lettered in golf.

First Exposed: I was watching The Biggest Loser, and Bob Harper had his contestants doing Crossfit workouts, it looked fun so I gave it a go!

First WOD: My first WOD was “Nasty Girls.” Instead of the muscle ups, I did 14 dips.  I remember I was not even half way done with the workout and I was in a world of hurt. It really hit me how out of shape I was.  But I pushed through and finished, and that part felt great!

Changes in Body: Physically I have gotten a lot stronger. My endurance has increased the most and I have been actually putting on weight (slowly but surely)!

Changes in life: Honestly, I see everything differently since starting Crossfit. I always give 100% of my energy in everything I do, whether it be in school or work, which is something I never used to do. Crossfit demands 100% of your energy every time, which carried over into my daily life.

Favorite FOCF Moments: One of my favorite moments at FOCF is meeting all the great people.  Everyone is so nice and encouraging. It’s like having a mini family who all happen to workout together. I don’t think there is any other gym that has such a close community, I love it.

Advice: Don’t give up. Don’t get discouraged.  Do what you can do at your own pace. Crossfit is all about becoming a better, healthier version of yourself. In time the strength, and endurance will come.

Hobbies: I thoroughly enjoy running, and taking long walks on the beach.

Hometown : Othello Washington.

Age: 59

Started training: Started training in Feb 2013

Favorite WOD: Hero WOD “Murph”

Least favorite WOD: Hero WOD Woods (%$#*@_*&)

Sports and fitness: Briefly tried three different sports in high school. A few years of martial arts in my 20’s. Several years of running in my 40’s along with a year or so of masters swimming and some light weight training. Currently CrossFit.

Introduction to CrossFit: I was looking for a new exercise/fitness venue and while googling local options, found CrossFit. The Fallout website info was intriguing, so I scheduled the required intro session whereas upon completion a new reality of my actual condition emerged.  (^&%$*#@).

First WOD: I think my first wod started with seven minutes of burpees (about 40) and later some box jumping (5 or 6 plates) that’s about all I remember. I felt out of place for the work out, pretty burnt out at the end, however people in the class were helpful with questions and also encouraging.

Changes: Well….being seven plus years out of shape and adding on 30+ unwanted pounds prior to joining CrossFit I’ve now lost 20 pounds since starting CrossFit. I am enjoying greater endurance with some strength gains. ( I am able do a couple of pull-ups now).

Life changes: Other than meeting lots of people and making friends I rest a lot more…hahaha. Have discovered an additional avenue to try and improve my health via LuRong Paleo Challenge.

Favorite moments: Finishing Murph wod.  Completing a rope climb.  Actually doing the overhead squats during the Nancy WOD.  Watching the games prep class carrying heavy weights, jumping over boxes, and doing walking lunges with weights in the rain!

Advice: Give your max intensity that you can for that day and show up at the box consistently.

Interests: Family functions, cruising with a group of motorcycle riders, on 2-10 day trips.

Hometown: Kennewick, WA

Age:17

When did you first start training at FOCF?: February of 2013

Favorite WOD: Anything with lifting

Least Favorite WOD: Whenever we’re sent out to the street to run!

Tell us about you sports & fitness background: I’ve played soccer my whole life and had always been one of the bigger kids on the field so I started playing football in middle school. I’ve played pretty much every sport but soccer continues to be my favorite.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? My dad introduced me to it through Tim. Once I got started I was addicted!

Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? My first WOD had tons of pull ups in it. The next day I could barely move my arms and I didn’t think I’d be able to do another workout. I’ve been sore ever since but I love it!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? I started back up with crossfit after I had surgery on my foot and had gained some weight. CrossFit got me back into shape and I continue to see improvements in every lift, box jump, and pull up I do.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? I’ve met a bunch of great people through crossFit and it gives me something to look forward to every day.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / FOCF moments: One of my favorite moments was doing Murph. It was one of the toughest things I’ve done and going into it I had no idea how I’d finish but somehow I got it done.

Any advice for people just getting started? Just throw yourself into the crossFit lifestyle and you’ll be hooked!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I love being around friends and family, going camping, boating, snowboarding, pretty much doing anything outdoors.

Hometown:  La Palma, CA (Southern California)

Age:  35

When did you first start training at FOCF?:  May 2012

Favorite WOD:

Least Favorite WOD:  Anything with back squats

Tell us about you sports & fitness background:  I have been an “athlete” my whole life and played various spots growing up.  Softball stuck with me and I had the opportunity to play Division I softball at San Diego State University (you know, the Harvard of the West)

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?  My husband purchased me a 3-month membership at an auction for my daughter’s school

Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?  I remember being very sore from the introductory workout with Tammy…and I have been sore ever since!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?  Flexibility has become so much more important.  I didn’t realize how rigid I was before.  Stretching was never a friend of mine but now I do it every single day.  I know that this will help maintain my long-term health.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?  Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / FOCF moments:   My favorite moments have been the first time that I did an unassisted pull-up and the first time that I did a wall-stand (upside down has never been a strength for me)

Any advice for people just getting started?   Keep coming!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?   Hanging out with my husband and two little girls.  We enjoy sports, camping and boating.  During the summer we can be found either on the river or in the cul-de-saq riding our bikes, scooters or skateboards!

ATHLETE PROFILE

Hometown:   La Palma, CA (Southern California)

Age:  35

When did you first start training at FOCF?:    May of 2012

Favorite WOD:  Hero WOD’s are great challenges and I especially liked Angie

Least Favorite WOD:   Anything to do with being upside down (HSPU, inverted burpees, etc.)

Tell us about you sports & fitness background:   I have been active all of my life and had an awesome experience playing Division I college softball at San Diego State University.  Go Aztecs!

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?   I had shoulder surgery in February of 2012 and was slow getting back into weight bearing exercise.  My husband saw a 3-month FallOut Crossfit package at an auction and won it for me.  What a nice way of saying, “Get your butt back into shape!”

Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?  I don’t remember the specifics of my first WOD but I do remember that it was a morning session and that there were over 10 people there.  I had no idea what any of the exercises were but everyone helped me out and I finished…and was very sore the next day!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?   My husband says that I may not be able to see the changes on the scale but that he can see them!

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?   I had gotten into a routine where I did what I liked when working out.  I didn’t vary my workouts much and was rarely sore.  Now I get a different workout every time AND I am always sore.  I love the feeling that completing a workout gives to me.  Regardless of the workout, there was something in it that was a challenge and I overcame it.  It is a great way to start the day.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / FOCF moments:  I have enjoyed getting to know the “morning crew”.  We all rip ourselves out of bed early in the morning to get our workout in and we have built a great camaraderie.  We all support one another and no one ever leaves before everyone has completed the workout.  Thanks to Coach Ben, Coach Laura and the “morning crew” for making it fun!

Any advice for people just getting started?   Keep coming back and always know that you can finish the workout!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?  I love spending time with my husband and two little girls (ages 3 and 6).  We enjoy boating, playing sports, playing in the front yard, skiing and camping…just being together.
