FallOut CrossFit – School of Elite Fitness Tri-cities, WA

From the Blog

January Athlete of the Month

Hometown: Pasco, but raised in Burbank, WA

Age: 23

When did you first start training at FOCF?:  I started training on August 9th 2012

Favorite WOD: As crazy as this sounds I like any of the girl named WOD’s i.e. Angie, Karen, or Fran etc. They might be hard, but when I’m done I know I’ve hit all sorts of muscles during the WOD.

Least Favorite WOD: Anything that includes Wall Balls. I know some of the WOD’s have them, but I don’t mind doing it.

Tell us about you sports & fitness background: I used to play basketball, little football, a year of track, a year of tennis in high school. Play some soccer whenever I can. I was at Gold’s Gym before FOCF.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I got tired of Gold’s Gym always being packed and having to wait for a machine. I got exposed by asking a friend who lives in Miami what he did to keep in shape, he mentioned XFit. I looked around the area and first place I found was FOCF. Now I can’t step into Gold’s Gym anymore or any normal gym. It’s too slow for me. Since then I haven’t looked back.

Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? My first WOD was strucutred with pull-ups, sit ups, and single unders. I think 5 rounds of 10 pull ups, 20 sit ups and 100 single unders for time. Before the workout I didnt think anything of it. During…WOW! did I want to throw up haha. Felt like I was being punished for something I didn’t do. Didn’t know wether my arms or legs where going to fall off first.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? The changes I’ve seen in my body have been a leaner look with a big upper frame. My health and fitness for sure have changed. It takes a lot for me to get tired and I’m starting to lift a little heavier.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? I feel more active, more alive, and in general happier. I can move or pick up things around the house without having a problem. I’m more efficient in anything I do whether its at home, work, sports, or any physical activity. To sum it all up the motto “Crossfit trains you for life” really says it all.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / FOCF moments: My favorite moments really are the ones when we have get togethers for BBQ’s or small parties. The best thing though is seeing other people get better or reach a new goal.

Any advice for people just getting started? I have three things for new people

1. “If it’s to be, its up to me” We all have the potential to be great so don’t let anything/anyone hold you back.

2. Listen to your body. If it’s tired take a day off, there’s nothing wrong with that, you’ve earned it. Better be ready to hit it hard the next day. Also watch your nutrition, even I need some guidance here and there.

3. “Inch by Inch Life Is A Synch, Yard by Yard Life Is Hard” V.D. (What I go by every day). Whatever your goal is, take it day by day. Set little goals in order to achieve the bigger one, the progress will come. Don’t try and do too much if you’re new you will only end up hurting yourself and that will put you back even further.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? Some of my hobbies are playing basketball, soccer, watch movies, go on runs, dancing, and be around family and friends. My interest are helping people reach any physical goals, I like photography, teaching people how to dance, marketing, and traveling. Other then XFit only talent I got is a bit of choreography (not sure if that applies as a talent).
