March Athlete of the Month
ATHLETE PROFILE: Jennifer Ollero
Hometown: Kennewick
Age: 40
When did you first start training at FOCF?: March 2011
Favorite WOD: I love the Sat WODs! And usually anything with pushups and kettle bells.
Least Favorite WOD: Definitely rowing and burpees!
Tell us about you sports & fitness background: I ran track and cross country in high school. Before kids I worked out regularly, but not so much after that! In 2010, I realized I needed a health change and got back into “gym” scene!
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Stacey Moody kept inviting me, but I was super scared, because I had already heard “stories” of this Crossfit thing, and I wasn’t sure I was up to the challenge! But after a couple months of continued peer pressure, I caved and was hooked!
Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? It was burpees and running, and I am pretty sure I was crying on the inside, but I do remember thinking how amazing everyone was and how I felt encouraged to push through!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? Although I weigh exactly the same, I have lost inches and can see baby muscles in my arms which I have NEVER had through traditional gym workouts!
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? I am starting to see physical changes I never expected to see! Plus I am sleeping better and have far more energy than I have had in years!!
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / FOCF moments: finishing the Murph in an hour….and finally getting my kipping pull-up band free!
Any advice for people just getting started? Set small goals for yourself and stick with it!
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? Cooking, reading, and a hockey/soccer mom…look-out!
Coach’s note: Jennifer has be working so hard to do pull ups band free, and she can now do it! Watch out Level III!
