When did you first start training at FOCF?: February 1, 2011 was my first work out.
Favorite WOD: I love the fact that every day is a different WOD and you don’t know what the WOD is for the day until you walk in the door and read it on the white board, because after you enter the FOCF doors, there is no turning back.
Least Favorite WOD: Med-ball cleans are a little higher on the list than burpees
Tell us about you sports & fitness background: I played volleyball and softball in high school/college and then did the occasional global gym routine.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I had searched the Battelle website found FOCF and I gave it a try, I only wish I would have found it a few years earlier……
Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? My first work out was 21, 15, 9, 15, 21, 1 of Thrusters and Burpees, I thought I was going to die, however, I could still walk the next day so I came back for a second work out which was the Holbrook Hero WOD (10 Rounds of 5 Thrusters, 10 pull-ups and a 100 meter sprint) by the end of that work out, I thought I had lost my mind and by the next morning when I couldn’t walk, raise my arms, or even think about sitting down, I knew I had lost my mind, however, there was something about this place called FOCF that kept me coming back for more, I guess you could say that I drank the Kool-Aid and I was hooked on Cross fit after that first week.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? My overall health has dramatically changed. I find that my immune system is stronger, I actually have endurance now, and my body shape has changed from my first work out. I actually believe that my mind and body now craves the Cross fit work outs.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? I believe that I learned to be patient and committed to a healthier lifestyle and I’m now starting to see and enjoy the rewards of being committed to a Cross fit program.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / FOCF moments: I love the fact that I get to work out with my family members (Chris, Deb, Cara, and Emma) but as a family we have gained a whole new big family called FOCF. The members at FOCF are the best and it makes working out so much more fun when you have a great group of people to work out with. The encouragement and support is wonderful, you don’t find that at any global gym.
Any advice for people just getting started? Be patient and remember this gym quote, “I’m not telling you it is going to be easy….I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it!”
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? Watching my kids play their sports and 4H activities and tending to our little family farm.
