Well, hello there, Leaderboards….
After a long hiatus, the Leaderboards have risen from the depths….
New and improved – eager to add names to the board, so get ready to push your limits! The Leaderboards recognize the top times and weights lifted by our athletes at FallOut CrossFit. The Leaderboard features what are known as the “Girls,” the notorious “Murphy,” and other events such as a 500 m row, 5 K run, Deadlift 1 RM, and others. In order to qualify for the board, the named WODs must be done as prescribed (Rx).
Many have asked, “Why are the workouts named after Girls?” According to the National Weather Service the use of “short, distinctive given names in written as well as spoken communications is quicker and less subject to error” than “more cumbersome” identification methods, so since 1953 storms have been assigned female given names. Coach Glassman, the founder of CrossFit explains it best. “I want to explain the workout once and then give it a name. I thought that anything that left you flat on your back, looking up at the sky asking ‘what just happened to me?’ deserved a females name. Workouts are just like storms, they wreak havoc on towns.” This convenience and logic inspired our granting a special group of workouts women’s names.
The focus this week will be on the “Girls” – yep, everyday get ready for a storm! The exception is Friday, as that will be the LuRong Living WOD number 5. There will be a bright green Notebook at the gym, which will be known as the Leaderboard Notebook. If you do a WOD as prescribed, and you believe your time will put you in the top 5 at the gym (men’s category and women’s is separate), it will be your responsibility to add it to the page labeled for the WOD in the Leaderboard Notebook. You will need to include your name, date, and it will need a coach’s initials to receive validation. If you were around when the old Leaderboard still existed, we will be transferring times/weights for current gym members from the old board to the new board. Anything accomplished that is not on the boards, will need to be proven. This is the only fair and consistent manner to represent the leaders. For example, if you ran a 5 K and have race results with your time – great – bring it to us and will get you on the board if it qualifies! Or if you did a competition and did a named WOD or lifted a qualifying amount of weight – way to g0 – bring us proof of your time/wieght and will get it added!
